One of England's finest stately homes Wollaton Hall and park, is located near Nottingham.
The building dates from the late 16th century and was built for a local industrialist, supposedly from coal profits. The ornately decorated hall has definite Dutch and French elements in its exterior design; the interior houses the city's natural history museum, with over 750,000 fossils, plants, minerals and preserved animals.
The 500 acre grounds are home to free roaming deer and are ideal for geocaching, orienteering and bird watching. Outdoor concerts and performances are held regularly in the grounds and there are guided tours available of the grounds and hall.Places nearby:
