Originally the park was Hakgala Botanical Garden's research field and was officially named Victoria Park in the year 1987 in commemoration of the diamond jubilee of Queen Victoria.
Situated in the center of Nuwaraeliya Town, this is the place to stay for those seeking a cool environment. This park is ideal for birdwatchers too. Some of the species over here include yellow eared Bulbul, dull blue Flycatcher, Indian blue Robin, and Indian Pitta. Visitors can also find a good collection of plants and flowers over here too.
Queen Elizabeth visited this park during her honeymoon. The small museum over here has pictures that display the town's history.
