Surf the waves at Sayulita Beach

This is the main beach where most people gather to enjoy the sun and the sand. It is right in front of the town so expect good crowds, especially in the afternoons. There are plenty of surfing schools in the area so this could be the perfect opportunity for you to learn. The water is shallow for a good distance from the beach so it’s friendly for beginners. The water is clean and the waves are great.

Chill at Playa los Muertos

If you prefer a quieter day at the beach, then you should head south to Playa los Muertos. This part of town is well-loved by tourists because of its beauty and simplicity. It also happens to be located beside the cemetery, hence the name which translates to “Beach of the Dead”. Don’t be scared, however, because this is a great place to swim, snorkel, or just unwind with friends.

Hike up the Monkey Mountain

Fit and adventurous individuals can have a great time hiking up the Monkey Mountain. The reward is a gorgeous view of the whole town, including the long coastline. This is an unmarked trail so getting a guide is recommended to avoid getting lost. However, some have successfully ascended without any help. It takes about 3 hours to walk the route, though this can be shorter or longer depending on your fitness. Be sure to bring food and water.

Try sport fishing

Sayulita also happens to be a good site for fishing. It is possible to hire catamarans equipped with top notch fishing gear and manned by a competent captain. They can also provide snorkeling equipment. Stay comfortable all day at sea with facilities including a cabin with a queen size bed and bathroom. Multiple sites can be explored for different types of local fish including snapper, dorado, sailfish, roosterfish, wahoo, mackerel, yellow fin tuna, and blue marlin. They can even take guests for whale watching from November until March.

Shop at Sayulita Farmers Market

One of the best ways to interact with a community is through its markets. Sayulita has a thriving farmers market bustling with energy and activity. Hours will pass in a snap thanks to the cool music, interesting products, and hip culture that permeates the place. If you get hungry, numerous restaurants and bars are nearby to provide hearty meals. The street vendors also offer delicious options. Just be mindful that these won’t come cheap. Those who would like to buy souvenirs will have plenty of things to choose from including garments, artworks, crafts, and organic products.
