The Parque Zoologico was founded in 1956 by Saturnino Maciel de Carvalho, the manager, and resident of Lago das Rosas.
Although the lake of roses at that time was already a place of leisure and recreation used traditionally by the people of Goiania, the zoo emerged only after this date, with the donation of some animals by professor and ornithologist José Hidasi.
The Museum of Zoology was also created in the same year. Since its foundation, the zoo closed down just once in June 2009 for the restoration of its physical structure.
When it was reopened in 2012, the zoo had 512 animals. In December 2015 there were 135 reptiles, 175 mammals, and 522 birds.Places nearby:
