The Palais du Prince is the official residence of the Sovereign Prince of Monaco. Known as a Genoese fortress, it has been home for the Grimaldi family for over seven centuries. It is a very popular landmark on the French Riviera.
Built in 1191 and restored numerous times over the years, the palace is a blend of Renaissance and Medieval architectural styles. It is filled with such rooms as the Throne, the York, the Red and the Mazarin. Also, it is decorated with Murano glass chandeliers, Carrara marble and red brocade. In addition, the courtyard serves as the setting for many family and local events.
