Opened in 1934, The Original Farmers Market in Los Angeles boasts of an illustrious history. The familiarity of the place among the fellow Angelenos is such that if anybody says let's meet at Third and Fairfax, the other immediately knows that they are to have their rendezvous at the Farmer's Market.
Countless celebrities, from the Beatles to Marilyn Monroe, from Frank Sinatra to President Eisenhower have been to the place and not a few of them were even regulars here!
Although you may find the odd McDonald's or Starbucks at the market, they really have little business to be there in the first place! Since the market really belongs to many family owned small businesses some of which are operating down here for generations.
More than anything, the place is a gourmet's delight and the loads of food stalls doing business at the market sell high quality yummy foods at affordable prices. Special mention must be made of the breakfast bistros such as Du-par's and Bob's Coffee & Doughnuts; the ice cream parlor Bennett's Ice Cream; Marconda's Meat, the oldest running meat market of LA; multicultural eateries such as Banana Leaf of Singapore & Pampas Grill; as well as unique specialty shops such as The Dog Bakery, Light My Fire and Kip's Toyland.Places nearby:
