The historic dockyard at Portsmouth was first opened to the public in 1911.
It contains several of the most famous British ships of all time, as well as exhibits on different aspects of maritime life, including the Royal Marine Commandos, weapons and explosives, and pirates. There's also a popular interactive walk through exhibit about the Battle of Trafalgar.
However, most people come to visit the ships; on display are HMS Victory, Nelson's flagship, and the first armor-plated warship, HMS Warrior. Also on display is the amazingly well preserved Mary Rose, a 16th century Tudor warship, along with thousands of items recovered from the ship.
