San Francisco is known for its cable cars as much as for its iconic bridge. The cable car museum is located in the city's Nob Hill neighborhood in the historic Washington / Mason powerhouse.
It was established in 1974, offers free admission and is run by the Friends of the Museum. Inside, visitors can see the large underground space containing haulage cables, as well as the unit housing the cable car power.
