The Botanical Gardens & the Zoo at Amsterdam should not be missed. The Hortus Botanius is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It was established in 1638 and has a collection of over 6000 varieties of plant life. Most of these are native to Europe and numerous are from different parts of the world. The agave cactus at the garden is 2000 years old.
The Artis Royal Zoo is only a five minute walk from the garden. It has been around for over two centuries and is home to 700 species of animals and 200 species of plants. You may also wish to visit the large museum, aquarium and library on the premises of the zoo.Places nearby:
