The Suomenlinna fortress is located on an idyllic island outside Helsinki, Finland. It is a popular destination for day excursions from Helsinki, and it is easy to reach as there are regular ferries between the island and the Helsinki Market Square.
This military fortress dates back to the 18th century when Finland was a part of Sweden. Today the fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
