Sultan Battery is located near Mangalore, India, overlooking the Gurupura River. Built of black stone in 1784, the battery protected the river from British ships. It was a strategic naval defense location stockpiled with gunpowder and supplies. An underground tunnel leads to Mysore nearby. Cannons and soldiers protected the battery centuries again.
Atop the battery, visitors experience a panoramic view of the surrounding area. The battery remains mostly preserved compared to surrounding structures, which are mostly decrepit and unused. Sultan's Battery remains a short trip away from Mangalore. Tourism to the area continues to grow thanks to the battery's historical significance.
