Sukhothai Old City is a historical park that is home to the ruins of ancient palaces, temples, and other structures of the ancient city of Sukhothai. Known as the cradle of Thai civilization, this city flourished in the 14th century, becoming the birthplace of Thai language, art, and architecture.
Famous features include the Wat Mahathat, the center of the ancient kingdom and the most famous temple inside the city. Other attractions include the Wat Phra Pai Luang, Wat Sri Sawar, the Ramkhamhaeng National Museum, and Turiang Kiln.
The ruins are spread over 70 sq. km. of property, more than 100 historical structures that showcase the incredible architecture from that time period. Bikes and electric carts are available for rent since the park is just too big to explore on foot.
