Located just 10 km south of Shillong, Shillong Peak provides gorgeous, panoramic views of the Bangladesh plains, the Himalayas, local waterfalls, and the main city.
With an impressive height of 1,962 meters, this peak is frequently covered in fog due its altitude. The topmost point of this peak has been dedicated to an Indian deity known as U Shulong, and is therefore considered to be a sacred site. Each year, a spring ritual is held at this point in honor of U Shulong. According to the mythology of the region, Leishyllong is a female deity that both lives on the peak and protects the city below it.
Given that the Indian Air Force radar station exists at this topmost point as well, all visitors must surrender their cameras when touring the location for security purposes.Places nearby:
