Sarimsakli Plaj in Ayvalık Küçükköy town of Balikesir is often touted as the 'oldest beach in Turkey'.
Sultan Mehmet of the Ottoman Empire conquered the Balikesir region in the 15th century. Today, Ayvalik is a smallish town and people from the area earn their livelihoods primarily from tourism, husbandry and agriculture. The Sarimsakli beach, located 8 kms out of town, is a nice, calm sandy beach 100 meters wide and 7 kms long.
You'll find a predominantly Mediterranean climate with hot and dry summers and warm, rainy winters. The Northern Aegean Sea is clean with waters in a beautiful tone of blue.
There are many little cafes as well as food vans and trailers parked along the beach and you can have a nice, quiet time here with your family and friends.
The town also has many comfortable accommodation facilities as well as leisure centers, bars, restaurants, cafeterias and discos.Places nearby:
