One of the few Western style buildings that survive in Sapporo is the Sapporo Clock Tower, which has become the city's symbol.
The wooden building dates from 1878, making it the oldest building in the city, and one that is featured on most tours. Inside the tower is a museum devoted to the agricultural college that once stood here, and a large upstairs hall that can be privately hired and hosts concerts sometimes.
Every hour the clock's chimes can be heard, and it continues to tell natives and visitors the time. It's located near the city's Odori Park and is about 10 minutes' walk from the station.Places nearby:
