Taiwan’s Rainbow Village has a fascinating history. What used to be a makeshift village scheduled for demolition has become a globally known tourist destination, thanks to Huang Yung-Fu’s art. Reluctant to leave, Huang started painting his home and with the help of a student, who publicized the artwork, turned the village into the nowadays colorful place that receives thousands of visitors annually. The artwork features elements of childishness, humor, and love.
It takes visitors about 15 minutes to stroll around the interconnected buildings, but photo sessions and some refreshment means more time. Additionally, there are souvenir shops nearby which stock umbrellas, hats, fans, and other items depicting Huang’s artwork.
