Individuals wearing shoes had to pay a toll to cross this bridge, whereas barefooted people did not have to pay any toll. This is a pontoon bridge, meaning that it swings open when big ships pass under it.
During such times, ferries are deployed to help pedestrians cross the water. The ferries do not charge any sum to help bring people across the water.
