Situated in the historic center of Arequipa lies the Plaza de Armas, which has a bronze pool in its center, which carries a sculpture of a pixie carrying a trumpet. The place also has a charming 3-plated bronze fountain with the figure of a 16th century soldier atop it. According to lore, the responsibility of this soldier was to issue any warning about any new event. It is rumored that the pixie once used to sport wings but has lost them. The place also has three huge portals where the Arequipa's town hall worked previously in the viceragal era… the municipality of Arequipa operates since the republican era.
