Built as a private home for a local publisher, the Pittock Mansion occupies a prominent position in Portland, Oregon with views over the Cascade Mountains.
The sprawling home was built in 1914 and features design elements that are French Renaissance and Victorian. The 16,000 square foot mansion has 23 rooms, including a sewing room, music room and Turkish smoking room as well as five bedrooms.
It incorporated much of the technology of the time when it was built, including central heating, refrigeration and an elevator.
Just as impressive are the 46 acre gardens, half of which are wild and half given over to roses, lilacs and other flowers.
