Founded in 1969, the Pirogovo, Kiev Museum of Folk Architecture and Life boasts of over 300 folk architectural pieces brought to the museum from pan Ukraine and then carefully assembled.
The museum's centerpiece includes several windmills. The total area of the museum is divided into different sectors with each one of them representing the life and folk architecture of a particular region of Ukraine. The museum further contains 40,000 items of traditional culture and household goods such as housewares, paintings, musical instruments, glassware, woodwork, handicrafts, metal, ceramics, carpets, embroidery, old textiles, as well as costumes.
Open air celebrations and theatrical performances are among the distinctive features of the museum.
