Hitachi Kaihin Koen or the National Hitachi Seaside Park near Mito in Ibaraki Prefecture is a specious park mostly famous for its wealth of stunning seasonal flowers.
It is said that the park changes color from one season to next thanks to these seasonal flowers. For example, the park takes the appearance of a vast sheet of blue during the nemophila season (late April to mid May) as the flowers cover the Miharashi Hill and its vast slopes.
And come autumn, the hill will be covered with green Kokia bushes that gradually turn to pink and purple red as we move deep into the fall season. And then there is the narcissus grove in the Suisen Garden right beside the main entrance of the park as well as a tulip garden sitting next to the main lake of the garden.
So, if you love flowers, this is the place to be for you.
Besides the flower orchards, you'll also find several walking trails and cycling paths at many parts of this 350 hectares garden. From the upper regions of these trails, one can get clear views of the nearby Pacific Ocean.Places nearby:
