The story of one of Britain's great ports and its people is told at the Museum of Liverpool, a recent addition to the city's museums.
It's located at the city's famous Pier Head, within easy reach of several other museums and attractions. Liverpool's economic development and how that was affected by the events of the last two centuries comprise the lower floor display, while the upper floor focuses on the social history, including immigration and the city's diverse culture.
Must see exhibits at the free museum include a life size replica of a liver bird, and a locomotive dating from the mid 19th century.
