Miramare Castle sits on the Gulf of Trieste in Trieste, Italy. Its construction was ordered by Archduke Ferdinand Maximilian. It is surrounded by a tropical style 54-acre seashore park. Designed by Austrian architect, Carl Junker, it reflects English, German and Austrian architecture.
The castle still contains the same furniture and decorations from the middle 19th century. Visitors can also see Maximilian's chambers, the music room and the throne room.
The surrounding park has trees that aren't native to Italy. This includes cedars from North Africa, cypresses from Mexico, pine from America, ginkgo biloba and giant sequoia. The park also has pools, paths, greenhouses and a swiss styled coffee house. The park is open to the public.Places nearby:
