Mirador Asta Bandera or the Flagpole Viewpoint is the place to head for if you fancy a magnificent bird's eye view of Monterrey (the capital city of the Mexican state of Nuevo Leon) and its surroundings. The viewpoint contains a circular esplanade 40 meter in diameter and at the center of it stands a giant 100 meter tall flagpole (hence the name) with the national flag proudly unfurled at the top.
From here you can see the Sierra Madre Oriental, the Huasteca Canyon and the Viaducto de la Unidad Bridge to the southeast; UANL and the Cuahtemoc Brewery to the north; and to the east, the downtown Monterrey and La Silla Mountain. As the place is meant for family trips, the main pathway leading to it is spacious and stays well-lit during the nighttime.
