Medina Azahara is nowadays the ruins of a huge and fortified city developed by Abd-ar-Rahman III.
It was built during the years 936 to 940 and included baths, residences, barracks, workshops, a mint, gardens, government and administrative offices, mosques, and ceremonial reception halls. Aqueducts were used to supply water to this city.
The site boasts of visitor center and car parks roughly 1.6 kilometers from the site. Do not forget to visit the former as it also has a museum containing interesting sights too. One can arrive here via public transport too.
This site is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
