One of the oldest plantation homes in the US, the Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, near Charleston, SC was built in 1676. Once occupied by wealthy plantation owners and their slaves, today it's a museum and tourist attraction.
The interior has been restored so that it appears as it would have done around the time of the country's Civil War. Several of the slaves' cabins have been restored too.
The gardens cover 25 acres and include a nature center and small zoo, a section devoted to plants described in the Bible, a maze and indoor tropical garden, as well as 900 varieties of camellia.
