Lincoln Castle dates from the 11th century, and is one of the best preserved in England; it's also unusual in having two defensive mottes, or raised banks of earth.
Renovations have meant that visitors can walk the entire battlements, and enjoy stunning views over the castle, Lincoln and the countryside. Another highlight is the Victorian prison, which offers an interactive experience; the graves of hundreds of prisoners can still be seen today.
