A popular day trip from the German city of Stuttgart, Lichtenstein Castle dates from the mid 19th century and was restored following damage in WW II.
Visitors can tour the courtyard and see the gun emplacements, although the interior can only be seen on a guided tour. Tours take in the castle's highlights, including the Knight's Hall, with its painted ceiling and wood paneling, the armory and the chapel, with glass paintings from the 15th and 16th centuries.
The castle has been described as a fairytale castle, and it's easy to see why. The courtyard and chapel can be rented or weddings, receptions, markets, concerts and other events.
