Udaipur is often referred to as Rajasthan's city of lakes. The city is well known for its four lakes, one of which is the Lake Fatehsagar. Named after Maharana Fateh Singh of Udaipur and Mewar, it is an artificial lake that is spread over 54 square kilometers. It receives waters from the Pichola, Madar and Badi Lakes.
There are three islands within the lake. While one island houses the Udaipur Solar Observatory, the second is a public park. The Nehru Park is located on the largest island, which has an area of four square kilometers. The Fateh Sagar is a popular tourist destination and also favored by the locals. The Aravalli Hills border the lake on three sides and showcase its clear waters.
