La Bastille is the name of a fortress whose height is 476 meters above sea level, is Grenoble's main tourist site with more than 600,000 tourists visiting it every year.
It is located on the primary peninsula of Mount Rachais, The fortress' main fortification's plateau is located at a height of 264 meters atop a singularly flat valley.
The architects chose this area for construction of the fort as it facilitated the surveillance as well as control of Grenoble city together with the valleys of the Drac as well as the Isere. Using alluvial deposits to fill this lake resulted in the creation of a perfect valley.
