Since opening its doors to the worshippers in 1987, the Kocatepe Mosque has become a major highlight of the city skyline of Ankara.
Not only is it the largest mosque in this Turkish capital city, but also one of the largest in the world. The mosque, with its elegant gold-plated dome and four towering minarets, is visible from pretty much all parts of the city.
The large mosque, built over an area of 4,500 sq. meter, can accommodate as many as 24,000 visitors at a time. Impressive as it looks from the outside, you'll be even more stunned by the gorgeous interiors of the building.
All the various decorations and the details show a seamless and innovative blend of contemporary architecture and the architectural styles from the Ottoman period.
