Located close to the Surakarta Hadiningrat Palace is the Klewer Market. It is the largest textile market in Solo City, Indonesia. It is also known to be the center for batik traders from cities such as Surabaya and Yogyakarta. This market was housed in a two storied building until a fire in 2014 burned it down. In its new form it is now spread across multiple levels but is just as crowded and exciting to visit as it was earlier.
If one is shopping for batik or for traditional textiles then this is the place to visit. The prices are cheap and often negotiable. Hallways at the market are crowded with small stores and stalls that sell batik and souvenirs. You can also buy traditional Indonesian snacks and food.Places nearby:
