Kashiya Yokocho Alley or the Candy Street, situated at the Kawagoe City northwest of Tokyo, is a delectable little street steeped in nostalgia…and in sweet fares.
The place is a must-visit for anybody having a sweet tooth since the stores lining the street is famous for selling traditional Japanese sweet dishes, including cakes, desserts, candies and many other sweets of the Japanese variety. You'll find sweet rice crackers, ice cream, various types of candies, a yummy deep-fried, sugar-coated cookie called 'karinto', cakes made of sweet potatoes and red bean paste and many others.
At one time during the early Showa period, the place had close to 70 shops. However the number has now dwindled to about 20. Nevertheless, the little alley has remained true to its past heritage, both in terms of its look and setting as well as in the authenticity of the products they sell.Places nearby:
