Jackson Square is at the very heart of the famous French Quarter in New Orleans.
It was laid out in 1721 and has been named one of America's great public spaces. It's a lively place at any time of day, with street musicians, jugglers and entertainers often found there. It's also home to several other must see New Orleans attractions.
St. Louis Cathedral dates from 1789 and is supposedly haunted, while the Cabildo was once the Spanish colonial hall; today it's home to the Louisiana State Museum.
Just off the square is the well known Café Du Monde, an institution that's been serving coffee and beignets since 1862.
