Completed in 1917, Hiram M Chittenden Locks is a collection of two locks located in Seattle, Washington. The locks are situated in Salmon Bay, which is on Lake Washington Ship Canal. It transports the largest amount of boat traffic in the United States.
Not only did its completion lower water levels and change river flow, it also provided new waterfront land in the Seattle area. The locks link Puget Sound and Lake Washington.
The locks are also a very popular tourist attraction. Visitors can e jog or bike the walkways and relax in the green spaces. There are also glassed in viewing areas to see different types of fish. In addition, the area offers a botanical garden, exhibits and a souvenir shop. Admission is free to the public.
