Standing at 41.14 meters tall and shaped like a phallus, the Heroes Monument is a memorial in Surabaya, Indonesia, built to commemorate the events that took place on the tenth of November 1945 at Surabaya's battle. People from all parts of the country visit this place on November 10th to commemorate the 1945 event. Sukamo, the first Indonesian president, led the foundation lying of this monument on November 10, 1952. He was accompanied by Doel Arnowo, the Mayor of the city. The memorial was officially opened after a year on 10 November 1952 in the presence of R. Moestadjiab Soemowidigi, the then Mayor.
