Opened in 1867, the Halifax public gardens were designated a National Historic Site in 1984. The 16 acre gardens are located opposite Victoria Park, close to the popular Spring Road shopping area.
The original Victorian design has been kept, which includes stone bridges, fountains and several ponds as well as formal gardens. Various plaques throughout the gardens honor military campaigns and military figures. The gardens are usually open between May and October and have become a popular place for school prom and wedding photographs, as well as Sunday afternoon concerts in the bandstand.
