Guimaraes Castle is located in the Braga District of Northern Portugal in the city of Guimaraes. Built in the 10th century, its original purpose was to defend against Norsemen and Moors. As is a symbol of Portugal's birth, it is one of the country's most popular tourist attractions.
Located on a granite hill, Guimaraes is an 88 ft castle with seven towers. It was designed with medieval, Romanesque, Gothic Portuguese and French architecture.
