Germany has been through turbulent times since WW II and its history is on display at the German National Museum of Contemporary History, near Bonn. The Berlin Wall, the Cold War and the reunification of Germany are all explored in a series of interactive permanent displays and temporary exhibitions.
Over 7,000 photographs, recordings, historical documents and other items help to bring the displays to life. There's also a gallery of historical cartoons and a look at popular culture, including the legendary Volkswagen Beetle car.
The museum offers guided tours, free admission and is in the center of Bonn, easily reached by train or subway.
