Galle Face Green is a seaside urban park in Colombo, Sri Lanka and is known for its stunning views of the Indian Ocean. Work on the 5-hectare strip was carried out as early as 1859 and it was used for horse racing, polo, cricket, rugby, among other sports.
Today, the green is the go-to place for family picnics, kite flying and trying out the nearby street food stalls that sell crabs and shrimp, or fresh cut mangoes dipped in salt. It is also just a few steps away from hotels, shopping malls, cafes, and restaurants, making the park an ideal stop for tourists.
Two famous hotels, the Ceylon-Intercontinental, and the Galle Face Hotel are located at the border of the strip.
