The El Faro Lighthouse holds the distinction as the highest lighthouse in the continent. Constructed in 1879, it is also the highest operating lighthouse in the world. At night, its beacon can reach a distance of 56 kilometers.
It is accessible through a scenic hike to the hilltop, through sloping hills dotted by greenery and different varieties of cacti. Street lamps line the trail, which makes late afternoon hikes to the top safe and comfortable. From the peak, visitors can enjoy a fantastic view of the beach and the entire peninsula. The Old Town is also visible from this vantage point.
The tower is located in Cerro del Creston and is an ideal location for enjoying the scenery, picnics, or a cool beverage bought from one of the many vendors located at the peak.
