The Dakshinachitra Museum at Chennai, India is a one of its kind. The living history museum showcases the architecture, lifestyle, art and crafts of the Southern states of the country. The name 'Dakshinachitra' literally means 'picture of the south'.
Built on ten acres of land the heritage village museum exhibits 18 traditional homes that were set for demolition by their owners. The houses were taken apart, brought here and reconstructed. Visitors to the museum can move about the homes and gain an understanding of the lifestyle of the people who once lived in them.
