Located south-west of the city of Craiova, the Craiova Botanical Garden was established in 1952 at the initiative of Professor Alexandru Buia from the University of Craiova.
Spread across an approx. 12.8-hectare area, the place boasts of a vast collection of plants and trees from various parts of the world. The Garden is divided into three main sections. 'The Ornamental Sector' is located near the entrance and houses 145 different plant species. Then in the central part of the park, you'll come across the 'Plant Systematics Sector' that is designed around a lake and hosts a wide variety of aquatic plants, in addition to many species of birds.
Finally, 'The Romanian Floristic Provinces Sector' contains 120 different species of plants and trees native to different regions of the country. There is also a Herbarium and a Museum inside the garden.
