The Christchurch Botanic Gardens was founded in 1863 with the planting of an English Oaktree.
It started from small beginnings to become a much-loved destination for visitors and Cantabrians alike. These natural wetlands and dunes have transformed over the years into a beautifully cultivated 21 Hectare Park. Here you can expect to find ten different gardens framed by expansive lawns and mature trees.
Finally, there's a selection of native New Zealand ferns and many bird watching opportunities as well. The water garden has irises and lilies which are surrounded by shrubs. Overall it's a beautiful place to behold.
The church is open from 7 AM every day and entry is free.
