The Chojnik Castle, perched on top of the forbidding Mount Chojnik and subject of many curious legends, is located at the Jelenia Gora district in the lower Silesia.
The stony castle was built by Prince Bolko II in mid 14th century primarily as a hunting manor. After the death of the prince, the castle fell in the hands of the wealthy family of Schaffgotsch who expanded and took care of the structure for close to 300 years.
Today, the castle attracts attention of tourists chiefly due to its imposing architecture and its secluded position among the higher regions of the Chojnik Mountains.
The ruins of the castle is accessible through a number of steep trails and depending on the one you choose, it will take you 45 minutes to 1 hour to reach the stone ruins.
