One of the most famous parks in the world, Central Park is 843 acres of lush greenery, bike lanes and walking paths in the heart of Manhattan. It is the most visited urban park in the country and also one of the most filmed parks in the world.
Designed from scratch by Frederick Olmstead and his team, the park serves as a quick escape from the urban jungle that is Manhattan. It is home to an impressive collection of wildlife, numbering around 500 species of flora and fauna.
It is also a historic landmark. Commissioned by the state legislature in 1853, it is the first landscaped park in the country. Points of interest that are worth a visit include the Harlem Meer, the Conservatory Garden, Turtle Pond, and Belvedere Castle. Cap any visit with a short jog around the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir before sitting down to enjoy an alfresco jazz session along the paths of the park, or going for a short boat ride on the lake.
