Constructed during the 13th century, Buonconsiglio Castle is located in the town of Trento, northern Italy.
A wall encloses the structure, which has been added on to over the centuries, and it has served as a jail, barracks and museum.
Today it's home to the Provincial Gallery of Art. Other highlights of a visit include the frescoes from the 15th and 16th centuries, some of which show hunting scenes, and collections of coins, sculpture and medals.
The castle has a library and archive of old photographs and also hosts a range of concerts, temporary exhibitions and other events inside the walls.
