The Romanian town of Brasov is full of many historic sites and monuments, but the Black Church arguably stands head and shoulders above all the others. There are so many things to be said about this imposing gothic construction 38 meters wide and 89 meters long that one would be at a loss about where to start. To begin with, this is the largest Gothic church in all of Transylvania; the church boasts of the second largest collection of beautiful exotic oriental carpets (about 110 of them) in all of Europe; the church bell, made of bronze and weighing 6 tons, is the largest church bell in Romania; and so it goes…
As for its origin, the church was built in 1380 but in the year of the Christ 1689, the structure was subjected to an especially violent fire that ruthlessly blackened the walls of the monument and hence its current name. Inside the cathedral, you will be met with an enormous organ composed of no less than 3,993 pipes and it'll be a lifetime experience for anybody to listen to a choir that is sung using this organ.
