Built in 1913, the Bab Bou Jeloud Gate is the main access to the Medina Fez el-Bali, the oldest and most charming area of the city. Through the gate, you can access the medina from the northwest where the road forks to the left to enter Talaa Kebira (Great Slope) and to the right into Talaa Seghira (Small Slope), two of the main commercial arteries of the city.
Bab Bou Jeloud is lively and full of people at any time of the day, so it is a fairly safe area even at night. One of the best ways to view the incessant activity that surrounds it is to climb to the terrace of one of the nearby restaurants or cafes. It is a real pleasure to view the crowds from the vantage point.
