Lyon is France's second city, and known for its food, although it's also the home of one of the country's best aquariums.
The Aquarium de Lyon is housed in a strikingly modern building overlooking the River Saone in the city's La Mulatière neighborhood. It's divided into several sections, including temperate waters, and tropical waters, although the highlight for many visitors is the shark tank.
The 23 centimeter thick glass is designed to withstand the high water pressure, and the tank even has an artificial shipwreck for added effect. The aquarium is child friendly too, with a section that encourages kids to touch crabs, sea stars and other creatures.
